Urgent Solidarity call for Zeynab Jalaliyan and Shirin Alam Hoolo
This Friday 30/04/2010 at 11am we will be delivering a letter to the
Iranian Ambassador. We are demanding these executions stop immediately
as they are gross human rights violations, secondly we demand
immediate respond on Zeinab's health and her location.
Dear Friends,
Two months ago we launched a campaign on behalf of these two women; so
far we have collected over 11,000 signatures appealing for the
relevant authorities' intervention to exert pressure on the Iranian
authorities to have the death sentences in their cases commuted. The
number of signatures indicates the strength of feeling among people
about the plight of these women and all political prisoners in Iran.
Currently Zeynab's location is unknown and no communication has been
received from her for the last two months.
By way of background detail to the two cases, Zeynab Jalaliyan is a 27
year old Kurdish woman, sentenced to death and presently awaiting
execution. She has been held in prison for the last two years and is
currently detained in Dizel Abad Prison in Kermanshah City. Zeynab was
convicted of being a 'Mohareb' ('enemy of God') for her activities in
the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK), which is the major opposition
front to the Islamic regime. Her trial was concluded in only five
minutes and she was denied the right to have access to a solicitor.
Shirin is a 28 year old Kurdish activist, who has been imprisoned for
the past two years, for most of the time she has been detained in
Section 209 of Evin Prison. She also spent 28 days in the Military
Corps detention centre where she was subject to brutal and systematic
torture. Like Zeynab, Shirin has also been convicted of being a
'Mohareb' ('enemy of God') and sentenced to death for her involvement
in the PJAK.
